Disney engineers created the tactile lines for blind people

Laboratory Disney Research continues to create new technologies, which are not necessarily related to animation and cinema. We have repeatedly told you what they do the engineers of this company. For example, they created a printer that can print objects made of fabric, and even a “magical bench” of augmented reality. This time they managed to develop a system that allows blind and visually impaired people to literally feel the fireworks with his fingertips.

The development was named Feeling and Fireworks is a screen-membrane, the reverse side of which there are five mobile water fog or fine spray. Nozzles with different diameter nozzles is supplied to the membrane a drop of water, while adjusting the pressure, speed and force of impact of the drops. A blind person can touch the screen and feel something that previously could not see because of the lack of view. The system is able in real time to process the signal from the broadcast real fireworks and recreate tactile picture of what is happening on the screen.

“We would really like to see people deprived of sight, had the opportunity to experience all the joy that is available to others when they see fireworks,” — explained to journalists Paul Beardsley, Disney Research employee.

At the moment the system was tested exclusively on sighted people. But soon the lab will be invited blind and visually impaired visitors. At the moment there is only one installation instance of Feeling Fireworks. Most likely, in the future, the system will be installed in amusement parks Disney, thereby opening blind people previously not available to them beauty.
