Does the person desire to suicide? It is quite difficult to determine even if a patient talking to a therapist. According to statistics, about 80% of people who are thinking about suicide, don’t talk about it to his psychoanalyst during the conversation, and the specialist cannot always determine such decadent mood in the ward. Fortunately, to detect such tendencies can now help artificial intelligence.
After studying the MRI scans, a team of scientists using the number of keywords identified specific regions of the brain that responds to them, and then taught AI to map brain activity with the psychological state of a person.
A leading expert and author of the algorithm Marseille just noted that now the algorithm does not guarantee a perfect result, but already know how to identify the warning signs, analyzing the information obtained in a half-hour scanning MRI machine. Yet the gigantic apparatus quite difficult to fit into his shrink’s office, and the technology itself is imperfect. In addition, studies were conducted on patients from two control groups, one of which bore people with suicidal tendencies.
It is unknown whether the method works for people whose feelings are unknown to the experts, because knowing about the intentions of doctors to identify certain reactions, the subject may try to suppress them, to hide their thoughts. Nevertheless, the result is impressive: the algorithm was able to perform MRI and to determine the susceptibility to suicide in 91 percent of the known cases. Therefore, scientists hope that their development can be useful in the future when it will be possible to use less visible equipment and testing methods.
