Intel has proposed a formula to ensure the safety of unmanned vehicles

“Responsibility, sensibility, safety” — these three words describe my approach to developing artificial intelligence for unmanned vehicles, the engineers from Intel. Unmanned vehicles have slowly but surely come into our lives: they are developing giants such as Google, Uber, GM, Tesla, Ford and other companies. Despite this, the safety of such vehicles is still a big question. And Intel has decided to contribute to the common cause by creating a mathematical “formula of safety” for the driverless car.

The main safety issue of unmanned vehicles rests on the General standard to guide all producers without exception. And in the company Mobileye, which is owned by Intel, will understand this. The company’s President, Amnon, Shashua proposed a universal formula that can significantly improve riding safety at unmanned vehicles. Learn more about the development of Mobileye in the official document at this link.

According to the theory, the unmanned vehicle need to know two things. First, the condition of security, when there is no risk to get into an emergency situation. Even if other road users are behaving recklessly. And the second parameter is the policy identify hazardous situations when a vehicle will be able to make the right decision to return to the conditions of safe movement. The formula involves variables such as the average length of the vehicle, the response time to other participants of traffic, speed of cars in front and behind, acceleration and so on.
