The prevention of serious diseases is much more important than the treatment of these diseases. After all, if the disease be prevented, and treatment is not required. As for cancer, then statistics are depressing: every year the number of cancer cases is growing, and it is identified typically in the later stages, when treatment is extremely difficult. But a group of Russian scientists managed to create a method by which cancer can be detected before the appearance of the disease.
In fact, new research is at the intersection of medicine and, surprisingly, mathematics. The fact that in the course of life in the human body continuously occur cell mutations. It is absolutely normal, because our defensive system can easily “catch” the changed cells and destroy them before they develop into cancer. Moreover, there is a “critical moment”, when our body ceases to cope, and mutated cells are not destroyed.
The new method is based on the hypothesis of the origin of cancer: depending on the received test results (the number of mutated cells), we compute the probability that the individual would subject a particular type of cancer. Thus, the diagnosis allows you to begin the prevention of cancer long before its manifestation. In addition, such a test increases the effectiveness of chemotherapy, so doctors can more precisely affect the desired cells, thereby reducing negative impact on the health of the patient during chemotherapy.
