The Boeing company continues to buy a small but promising startups. One recent acquisition was Aurora Flight Sciences, developed the system of automatic piloting ALIAS, independently put the Boeing 747 on the simulator. The transaction amount has not been disclosed, and she has to pass through several stages of validation. Company Aurora Flight Sciences has access to military developments, therefore, should not accrue to anybody.
The first test of a robot pilot took place this spring, after which the company’s engineers started to work on automatic identification system for marking the runways. Yeah, ALIAS (Aircrew Labor In-Cockpit Automation System) is really almost a full-fledged robot-pilot, able to adequately assess the situation and to respond to orders and act in emergency situations.
Technical Director, Boeing believes that to remain the leaders in your industry, if you keep the “nose to the wind”, so buying up promising companies and start-UPS looks quite appropriate. Other than the developer of the autopilot, Boeing owns several companies that develop gliders and other aircraft that use clean and renewable energy.
It seems that Boeing put the emphasis on the use of unmanned technologies. Apparently, the company really believe that in the future people in the pilots seats are needed.
