The use of augmented reality, abbreviated as AR (Augmented Reality), allows designers to see how will look the solution, relieving them from the necessity of making the masses of the prototypes. In addition to increasing the speed of development, the augmented reality system allows to avoid information leakage, as the model can see only those who are wearing a helmet. “Even the first version of the system design has reduced the development process from weeks to a few hours. The introduction of augmented reality technology allows our designers to experiment and invent absolutely fantastic thing.”
Now experts Ford plans to transfer a number of aspects of the development in the use of Microsoft HoloLens. For example, the company is already engaged in research on “transfer” AR in intermediate stages of development of engines, chassis and other car parts. According to Elizabeth Baron, Ford’s leading expert in the field of virtual and augmented reality,
“Microsoft HoloLens device gives the possibility of a group of people to work simultaneously on the same project. This allows to achieve maximum efficiency, significantly reduce production costs and time required to develop new products”.
