Courier network of drones can be of great help in many different situations. And it’s not only about the delivery of knickknacks bought on popular shopping Internet sites, but also about more important things. For example, life-saving or delivery of the right drugs or donated blood and organs to where they are in dire need. The company Matternet is preparing to launch its own network of medical drones couriers connected to a single cloud system.
By the end of 2017, the company intends to establish a small network that will connect the district hospitals, labs and emergency rooms in Switzerland.
Developers report that the whole process of extraction and of delivery will be fully automated, so hospitals do not need to contain a staff of experts serving the unmanned aerial vehicles. For example, to send samples for analysis, the doctor will just need to put them in a special container and cause the drone to a smartphone app. Scanning the QR-code and send the container to be loaded. The rest — a trick. The drone will pick up your package and deliver it to the address notifying the recipient in advance of their arrival.
A program that will control drones along with pave the best route and choose the unit with charged batteries to complete the job. The developers of Matternet claim that this delivery method will not only help to more effectively organize the work of doctors and save more lives, but also will save the money that the hospitals usually spend on transportation tests, the other samples and donor blood.
