Japanese pensioners are unmanned taxi

DeNA, the company began testing its unmanned shuttles in the district Nishikata, located about one hundred kilometers from Tokyo. Mobile games developer DeNA has created six unmanned taxi to help the retirees lead an active life and perform their daily tasks.

The population of Japan is aging rapidly, so in many provinces, villages and small towns most of the residents have long since retired. This means that they do not see well, their coordination of movements and reaction speed is also not the same, so even older cars are not always able to travel by their own vehicles to visit and for shopping.

Unmanned Robot Shuttle buses from DeNA are designed to solve this problem and already tested. Their speed is limited to ten miles an hour, but even in this case, slow shuttles allow many seniors to go about their business within the area.

Testing will continue until 2020. If all goes well and unmanned buses good show, the government promised to allocate separate strips and run them across the country.
