Created by the air conditioning system is working without electricity

In the hottest time of year, many of us use air conditioning. And despite the fact that summer has passed, scientists from Stanford University have unveiled a high-tech optical surface on which it is based air-conditioning system that does not require electricity for its operation.

As a heat carrier is water, which passes through the heat exchanger, located under a special optical surface. This surface reflects about 97% of the energy of the incident sunlight, at the same time dispersing into the environment the thermal energy transferred by the water. Already tested systems of such “passive cooling” showed that the water in this way is cooled to a temperature of 3-5 degrees Celsius below the ambient temperature, which is enough for good air conditioning.

Upon receiving such indicators, researchers have developed a mathematical model of the notional building, which showed that using this system of air-conditioning electricity savings due to the passive cooling system may amount to 14,3 MWh during one summer month. It is worth saying that in the mathematical model were calculated electricity consumption for the building, located in one of the hottest climates in Las Vegas.

The device is a new cooling system

Currently, scientists from Stanford University founded the company SkyCool Systems, which will further improve the technology and its implementation. This system of passive air conditioning can be really popular, because, according to official figures, by 2050 the total amount spent on air conditioning energy will increase by approximately 10 times. So that’s 20% energy savings, which is revealed during tests, will make a significant contribution not only financial, but environmental.
