AMSTERDAM –
The Dutch lawyer Luke Berman has vrijfdag an emergency call to his family sent about Sint-Maarten. “It seems The Walking Dead, in real life, but without the zombies. Everyone is self-securing in small teams with machettes where you normally would in your garden with a day, to not being robbed.”
“It’s not safe here. Everywhere is being plundered. Groups of people are stealing. Armed: some with guns, others with knives.” According to Berman, there is no authority from the government. Security services are missing. “It’s every man for himself now. There are far too few marines. There are now hundreds of sent, but that there must be thousands.”
Radio
Finally, says Berman, communication must be restored. “There should be a radio tower to be installed by the marines, the army or the government – so that instructions can be given on the island. No one knows what happens. Occasionally works the internet, but a lot of people have no phone more. That can only a radio to listen to in their car. If that does it.”
