Opposition in Kenya threatens with boycott election

NAIROBI –

The Kenyan opposition leader Raila Odinga threatens the rematch of the presidential election to boycott. He demands “legal and constitutional” guarantees that should ensure that the ballot is fair.

“You can be a mistake not to two times and then a different outcome to expect”, said Odinga against reporters. He demands the resignation of a number of employees of the election commission. Also, he would prefer that the next election on a different day.

The Kenyan supreme court ruled last week that the ballot must be repeated because of irregularities in the election commission. The judges declared the victory of sitting president Uhuru Kenyatta is null and void. The new election is scheduled for 17 October.
