The mayor of Houston has the U.s. government called on his city and other affected communities as soon as possible financial aid. Sylvester Turner said at a press conference, in order to avoid the municipality of the money for the hulpverleningsinspanningen around the tropical storm Harvey must pay in advance and later request a refund.
Houston is heavily affected by the storm, which was associated with heavy rainfall. That led to flooding in the south of United States. The storm has since Friday, at least 22 people killed. Tens of thousands of people sought safety in shelters.
“People are angry and frustrated. They are wet and have their homes should leave. They want yesterday help,” said mayor Turner. “I hope that the people at the federal level, all the way to the top, realize that this is catastrophic.”
