Siemens Corporation in 2012 presented a project of construction of highway, the main idea of which was the following: when driving this road, the electric vehicle will not only deliver you to your destination, but also to recharge on the go. And now, after a series of experiments, the company began building the first segment of the “innovative road”.
The project of electrified highways has called eHighway, and, strictly speaking, for the movement it can be used in hybrid trucks with diesel-electric propulsion. In the past, 2016, the company Siemens built the first experimental section eHighway in Sweden near Stockholm. Now under construction phase length of 10 kilometers in Germany and eHighway will become part of the busy A5 motorway.
The construction is carried out in the district of Hesse and the plan should be completed no later than the end of 2018. eHighway originates in Zeppelinheim logistics centre located at the airport of Frankfurt and ends in the warehouse district Darmstadt/Weiterstadt, which produces freight forwarding for transport.
For the development, together with representatives from Siemens meet the experts of the company Hessen Mobil, which monitors the road and controls traffic transport in Germany. As told by Gerd Riegelhuth, one of the representatives of Hessen Mobil,
“The new system eHighway will be used as part of an integrated transport network. It will be proof of the benefits of a neutral with the environmental part of the vision technology of transportation in the Frankfurt area. The effectiveness of hybrid transport to 2 times higher than that of cars with internal combustion engines, and the use of the highway eHighway will allow to improve ecological situation in the area of Europe’s largest airport.”
