A soft robot is repaired independently in warmth

Belgian engineers from the University of Brussels have developed a robot that can repair themselves. In order to get it started patching holes, it just need a little warm up.

Soft robotic arm made of special elastic polymer, which consists of microscopic threads. The damage being dealt to the structure of the polymer, easy to fix, just heat the deformed section. Soon he will be back the same as before, completely eliminating all weaknesses.

Soft robots are highly demanded in various industries requiring delicacy and caution. For example, the manipulator, is made of elastic polymer, can be used for collecting or sorting of vegetables and fruits. Useful such a device and in manufacturing, where it is possible for such robots to reduce the number of mishaps.

Now the developers are going to modify your soft robot so that it can respond to damage and began to bask yourself. For full recovery of the polymer the robot needs to be heated to about 80 degrees Celsius.
