Big Ben strikes four years not because of renovation

LONDON –

London’s Big Ben is starting next week Monday, four-year long cease to hear it. The reason for this is a large-scale renovation of the Elizabeth tower in which to 13.7 ton bell hangs. The safety of the workers in the tower must be guaranteed.

The clock will until 2021 only be heard during major events such as the old and the new.

Also the parliament building itself, the Palace of Westminster, where Big Ben is part of, should urgently be renovated. For decades, the from about 1100 rooms existing building is still only a little patched up. The renovation project that billions would cost, is not approved by the British parliament.

Buckingham Palace, the residence of queen Elizabeth, there is also very bad. A year ago, broke a piece of the facade. Also, it rains regularly.
