Further negotiations about a Turkish accession to the EU in the current situation is not possible. “We do not exclude anything, and we look forward. But we can ensure in the member states about Turkey since the failed coup a year ago not to ignore”, said EU commissioner Johannes Hahn (enlargement negotiations) on Tuesday in Brussels.
There spoke with Hahn and EU-buitenlandchef Federica Mogherini for hours with the Turkish ministers, Mevlüt Çavusoglu (Foreign Affairs) and Ömer Çelik (European Affairs and chief negotiator). “It is important that we open dialogue,” said Mogherini after the end.
At a press conference hammered Çelik out that Turkey is not only a strategic partner for the region, but that the “backbone” of the European-Turkish relationship to the candidate-membership of Turkey. He wants to that there are new steps for the negotiations.
