Any autopilot for a successful travel need a map, but not a hit, and new, relevant and detailed, preferably released yesterday-today containing all changes and notations. To launch such cards for autopilots, startup Lvl5 decided to bring Uber drivers and Lyft.
Andrew Khoury and Eric Ed worked at Tesla on creating autopilot, and George Tull developed the technology to process video from car registrars, turning them into detailed 3D maps. The knowledge and experience it was decided to send in the right direction, so colleagues at the end of last year founded his own company and began to develop the idea.
“In order for self-driving cars could drive on the roads without the daily updated maps they need. It is a fact that everyone ignored for some reason. In addition, no one system that could provide relevant maps program autopilots different manufacturers, so we decided to work in this direction,” says Andrew Khoury.
Now about 2500 drivers installed on her smartphone a special application that writes the video, and then sends the compressed data to the cloud where all the information obtained and processed by a special algorithm Lvl5, converting the videos to high-quality and detailed maps that will help in the future Autonomous vehicles to avoid accidents and to ensure a qualitatively new level of travel.
