Army Iraq celebrates liberation of Mosul with parade

BAGHDAD –

Iraqi military forces is the liberation of Mosul, the last stronghold of Islamic State in the country, Saturday celebrated with a military parade in Baghdad. Soldiers, tanks and other heavy vehicles attracted the eyes of, among others, prime minister Haidar al-Abadi through the streets of the capital. Except army units did also the police and shiite militias on the wapenschouw.

Leader of al-Abadi made Monday announced that IS was defeated and Mosul retaken. He called, therefore, a feast week. In the past few days were still fighting reported in the west of the former metropolis.

The organization took Mosul in 2014, and from there, large areas in Iraq. The offensive to drive out began in October last year. The jihadists prevail in Iraq now, but a few places near the Syrian border.
