With a musical ceremony on the cathedral square of the German town of Speyer on Saturday night, an end to the public ceremonies surrounding the funeral of the German statesman Helmut Kohl.
The muziekkorps of the Bundeswehr played after the take place in the cathedral of the old town under more a treurmars. The with a German flag covered coffin of Kohl stood on the square during the military and musical farewell. Kohl is in a closed circle buried on the cemetery of the church.
The christendemocraat Kohl ruled the Federal republic of germany as chancellor from 1982 to 1998. He was a convinced European and was previously on Saturday in the European Parliament honored by numerous (ex-)leaders. The coffin lay there under the European flag. He is the first who will be honored with a special European uitvaartplechtigheid. He died June 16 at age 87.
