Guterres finally finds a UN envoy for Libya

NEW YORK –

Secretary-general António Guterres, the UN wants the Lebanese former minister of culture Ghassan Salamé, appointed UN envoy to Libya. Thus he makes an end to the search of almost four months for a successor of the German diplomat Martin Kobler, after the United States, a previously proposed Palestinian candidate had been rejected.

Guterres wore Friday Salamé, who is a professor of International relations and conflict management at the prestigious institute Sciences-Po in Paris. Diplomats expect no objections and dedneken that the UN security council, the appointment Tuesday will approve.

The US had in February objected to the appointment of a former Palestinian prime minister, as UN envoy for Libya.
