The neural network will find the missing people

Searching for the missing persons now engaged in social services and the police. But, reports the New Atlas soon to help people come machine, which with the aid of sophisticated algorithms will find people, even if they lost a few years ago.

Scientists created a neural network maps the features of a human face such as lips, forehead, shape of the cheeks and other. Based on the data system begins to analyze, how could a person change over time. In addition, the program even takes into account external data relatives individual signs of aging and much more. This fundamentally distinguishes the program from all the existing analogues.

The researchers emphasize that their algorithm can be used to find missing people and wanted criminals. As an example, experts used photos of 21-month-old toddler Ben Needham who disappeared in 1991 on the Greek island of KOs. And although the baby was never found, the system gave a rough idea of how Needham might look like at age 20 years and older. As stated by the project developer Ali Bukar Maina,

“We train the system, “feeding” her hundreds of thousands of images of names and corresponding ages. Then, seeing the process of human aging, the neural network generates images on the fly. This is a very quick way. All currently existing algorithms use linear or one-dimensional methods, whereas our neural network is nonlinear, and therefore it suits best for each specific person.”
