Chinese quantum satellite transmitted data at a record distance

That the first quantum test of the satellite were successful, Chinese scientists from the Chinese Academy of Sciences announced the other day, then published a detailed article on this topic in the journal Science.

Scientists are very pleased with the results of the tests, because the satellite was able to transmit entangled photons to the three ground stations, located from each other at a distance of 1000 kilometers. According to them, this opens up new opportunities and prospects, so now the Chinese experts began to prepare to conduct new experiments, aimed at transmission of data on an even more impressive distances, writes The Verge.

If everything goes as they planned, the experts will be able to create a reliable data channel that cannot be hacked, this means that there may soon be a network, allowing you to transfer encrypted information over long distances. Chinese quantum satellite was launched last summer. Since then, engineers have spent a number of experiments, but this was the most ambitious and successful. During the satellite transmitted the data, which covered about 2400 miles in space.

Previously, China has announced its intentions to create a quantum Internet, but to establish space quantum communication try scientists from other countries. Work is being done in the UK, Singapore and Canada.
