CARTAGENA –
The Colombian president Santos has decided that three centuries ago sunken Spanish galleon San José is salvaged. On board is probably a treasure that converted between 2.5 and 15 billion euros worth.
The San Jose sunk in 1708, during a naval battle with the fleet of the English admiral Charles Wager. The on board existing of gold, silver coins and emeralds disappeared in the depths of the Caribbean Sea. A year and a half ago, scientists have found parts of the wreck off the coast of Cartagena. However, the owner of the valuable cargo, is controversial.
Immediately after the discovery of the wreck became known, reported Spain, and claimed the possession of any things on board. It did that with a convention in the hand, that determines that sunken ships belong to the country of origin. However, there is one kink in the Spanish cable: Colombia has that UN treaty never signed.
