Sticky case against president of Brazil stopped

The Brazilian president Michel Temer has, according to a special court in 2014 not guilty of illegal financing of his election campaign. The ruling Friday in Brasilia is a relief for Temer, who would have had to retire if he is guilty would be found.

The plaintiffs had argued that, among others, Temer money for the campaign was of bouwgigant Odebrecht. Four of the seven judges of the special court in the sense that is not proven. With the verdict is Temer not yet of the problems. There is also a federal investigation against him for corruption, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

The centre-right Temer did in 2014 to the presidential elections as vice president in addition to the leftist Dilma Rousseff. She was re-elected, but in 2016, in a controversial procedure from her office.
