Toyota introduced its flying car concept, which will be released in 2020

One of the world’s largest automakers, the Japanese company Toyota presented its vision of the flying car of the future. From all the other concept is characterized by the fact that the representatives of the automaker said the release of a full version of a flying car to the beginning of the Olympic games in Tokyo in 2020. According to the creators, the flying car will have to participate in the opening ceremony of the Olympics, so the project likely will be released at the appointed time.

For the realization of the idea the Japanese have invested 42.5 million Japanese yen (about 375,000 U.S. dollars) in the project Cartivator. Technology using multi-rotors used to fly the vehicle, very similar to what is used in most modern drones. The project is a flying car from Toyota was the code name SkyDrive.

SkyDrive is a single three-wheeled vehicle equipped with 4 rotors, which is approximately 2.9 meters long and 1.3 meters wide. If the concept does not undergo significant changes, SkyDrive will be the little flying car in the world. When moving the “traditional” way (i.e. on normal roads) the car can reach speeds of 100 kilometers per hour, and the moving speed through the air equal to 150 kilometers per hour with a minimum altitude of 10 meters. Having similar with the drones design, SkyDrive is equipped with a system of vertical takeoff and landing.

For the development of car manufacturers attracted a huge group of engineers not only in car industry but also from aerospace. At the moment the authors are very optimistic in the coming year is planning to release the first prototype.
