VIDEO – A group of more than thirty refugees, on Sunday, rescued from the Mediterranean Sea after the engine of their rubber boat exploded. The horrific scenes were filmed by the staff of the European agency for border control, Frontex.
The drama played out off the coast of the port city of Almería in the southeast of Spain. On images is to see how suddenly the flames arise at the rear of the boat. Within the shortest of times is the ship burning in the distance. The occupants, all of which have a life jacket to wear, jump in a panic in the sea.
Staff of the Portuguese air force, who was working with a border patrol for the Frontex, got the boat in the visor and pulled the drowning people from the water. Two reddingsschepen have the refugees to a reception centre in Almería.
