Newey: new structure at Red Bull has failed

Considerable criticism of the design-guru on his own team.

Adrian Newey has quite a sharp criticism of Red Bull Racing. The normally somewhat-elusive success, the designer is candid in conversation with Motorsport:

“I had stepped right back, but it became obvious that the car under a more delegated, or a committee’s way of operating, wasn’t performing. I think what’s clear is that my stepping back into a system of regulatory stability, then the system was working, but that child’s or committee approach hasn’t worked when we’ve had a big regulation change. So that’s what we need to consider for the future.”

Newey is because of its proven track record, generally regarded as the best designer in F1, although he also the shelf time misgeslagen. Although the best man the past few years, much less has been involved in the development of Red Bull’s F1 car, is the success or failure of the team in general is still attributed to him.

Perhaps Adrian partly because they now feel the need to his colleagues under the bus to throw. The usually likeable aero-nerd throws himself more or less as the savior of Red Bull Racing.

“As a child, or a duty to the team, to try and bring things forward, I have been quite busy since the second test, getting back involved to see what I can do to help. It’s not what I want to be doing long term, but I’m happy to be doing it for a period of time.”

Newey has previously indicated that the design of F1 cars to him today, not as much satisfying. The rules are what Adrian the many restrictive. Hence, he would rather focus on designing sailing yachts for America’s Cup and the development of the Aston Martin Valkyrie. But well, to say that he is doing there currently, so everything is back to Max and Daniel from the fire to help.

Team boss Christian Horner feels by the statements of Newey, of course, called to his other designers in protection to take, and possible fire-preventive to extinguish the fire. Also says Horner that Newey is less to do with the development of the F1 car, but indeed from the beginning has been involved in the RB13:

“The system is very similar, because he’s still leg feeding into that system. He’s regularly sitting with the technical principals. He’s had a huge involvement [in the 2017 design], and of course he’s got so much knowledge and experience for the guys to be able to draw on, and for him to implement. It’s an enormous asset for us.

Also emphasized Horner that the other artists last year with excellent work delivered with the RB12.

“The last couple of years, in particular the early part of last year, his [Newey’s] involvement was significantly less. The team did a great job with the RB12 in developing it into a very competitive car.”

Well, or the zwartepieten productive remains to be seen. Maybe Newey, thanks to some extra pressure on the boiler his colleagues to move to work even harder, or maybe think the same colleagues, ” ok friend, lets see it then’. Counter-clockwise or clockwise, we hope, of course, that the end result is a super fast RB13 for Max.
