Lease: Alfa Romeo Stelvio or Mercedes-Benz GLC

We have been looking forward to the SUV of Alfa Romeo. How does this relate to the top of this segment?

It was a shame, a gotspe. Alfa Romeo with an SUV. Where should it go with the world? Well, if it can make a world where we are Alfa Romeo showrooms can continue to visit. Because it goes without saying that an SUV is simply very important for a self-respecting brand.

But instead of harping on the idea of a SUV of Alfa Romeo, we can also look at the implementation. In the ‘middle’segment of SUVS/Crossovers, there are definitely good deals to be found. Think of the Porsche Macan, Audi Q5, Jaguar F-Pace, and soon the Range Rover Velar. For today we compare the Stelvio with the Mercedes-Benz GLC.

We choose for the big diesels with all-wheel drive and an automatic transmission. You want to of course, carefree miles. The four-wheel drive just belongs to such a car, although nearly every car in this class to equip with two-wheel drive. You will also no dive watch buy which splash proof only. In the following table you can see how they relate to each other:

What strikes us
We had to really a little behind the ears scratching: are those diesel SUVS that quickly? The GLC250d has been pretty off, but the Alfa Romeo is just very smooth. Another tip is the rent. Each leasing company will vary the prices a little bit, but on average, the prices are very well matched. That is good news for Alfa Romeo, because that means that the large companies expect that the Stelvio its value fairly remains intact.

Exterior
How you look at it or look at it, the design is a very important factor in these cars. Alfa Romeo has long been an advocate of the affordable automotive haute couture and the Stelvio does certainly not disappoint. The front is recognizable Giulia, but somewhat higher. In the side view and the back, there is not chosen for maximum sizes than a smooth line. Just as the Macan did, or a class higher, the Maserati Levante.

The Mercedes is able to draw from a very well-known design-keg. That is not a problem, because a really ugly Mercedes is not in the range to find (in my eyes) and it contributes to a strong familiegezicht. Also on the back is clearly a Mercedes-Benz. Here is the backside something more rechtoe-forward. If you have the butt of your crossover, dynamic desires, then there is the GLC Coupe. That is a five-door liftback-drawn carriage rides that high on the legs, but for unclear reasons, compartment is called.

Interior
The real ‘premiumness’ see you back in the interior. A tight design with a seamless finish and superior use of materials is almost the standard. The interior of the Alfa Romeo is more than ok. Of course, it is very based on the dashboard of the Giulia. It is not a German Top. But it is more than sufficiently provided for. You can reasonably dress up, although a little more choice in the configurator would be welcome.

The Mercedes no surprises, but is that so bad? Mercedes has still a neo-baroque, avant-garde style, and is just top. You have really got the idea into something extraordinary. It also shows that a tight dashboard not boring have to be dull. Another great advantage of the interior of the Mercedes-Benz you can complete the interior design to your own desire dress. From classic conservative to sporty extrovert: it is all. For a fee, of course. That is where you are.

Equipment
And thus we arrive at a USP of the Alfa Romeo. Because the Italian is noticeably more equipped than the Mercedes. The Stelvio is a so-called ‘First Edition’ and has therefore goodies as thick wheels, navigation system, parking sensors, electric tailgate, DAB radio, Xenon headlights and Lane Assist.

The Mercedes is German-equipped. In terms of safety, you come short of nothing, there is even a vermoeidheidssensor on that the Alfa is lacking. However, there are plenty of items that you really want to have. Think about a set of decent rims or a navigation system. At Mercedes there is a huge selection, but you’ll be deep in the pouch to erode. Do you want to be nice with the Mercedes GLC, will that hurt you in the wallet. So is the illustrated version equipped with Magno paintwork and the offroad package.

Drive
This has to be a point where Alfa Romeo have a business card issuing. The Stelvio is based on the Giulia promises much good. But the amazing thing is that the car also. Rarely felt an SUV as a regular sportsedan, which is extremely clever. In the base this car is rear wheel powered, so with a fine balance. Alfa Romeo knowing they will be the sporting director want to appeal to. The test of @CasperH can be viewed here.

The Mercedes is just how you put him together. In combination with a AMG package, it is a fine driving crossover with more than enough comfort. You go for a version without the AMG package, but with air suspension is the GLC is by far the most comfortable car in its class without squishy or dreinerig. Handsome.

Conclusion
If you’re in this price range should go shopping you will have brilliant good allrounders. Fast, relatively economical, roomy, sporty, and highly practical. Which will you choose? And especially: why?
