Switzerland have renounced nuclear energy

Many countries are still not ready to abandon the benefits of the “peaceful atom”, but the people of Switzerland decided on a very serious for their state step. In a recent vote the majority of the Swiss voted for stopping the government’s nuclear program in favor of developing alternative energy sources. Now Switzerland receives from its five nuclear power plants approximately one-third of all energy. According to statistics Agency, the IAEA, in the world today, there are 450 nuclear reactors generating about 3% of global energy consumption.

After the refusal from nuclear energy, Switzerland will not be easy, given that the country is not very rich in natural resources. At the moment the largest share of the energy consumption of the state (approximately 60%) cover of hydroelectric power. Alternative energy sources provide less than 8% of the total energy. Talk about refusal from nuclear energy began in 2011 after the disaster at the Japanese reactor “Fukushima-1” in which has been melted from three units. The Japanese still don’t know how to resolve the consequences of this terrible accident. The Swiss are in a similar state of things was very scared, so 58% of voters voted for the abandonment of nuclear power plants.

The beginning of the program of reducing nuclear energy sector is scheduled for January 2018. The decision of Swiss citizens was especially pleased by the representatives of the green Party, which for several years promoted bills aimed at environmental protection. Opponents of refusal from nuclear reactors, by contrast, believe that such a reorientation could severely undermine the economy of the country. Scientists also have their own position on this issue. Some of them believe that the level of sustainability and efficiency develop alternative sources of energy not too much better than nuclear, and sometimes she even loses.
