Minister Bert Koenders of Foreign Affairs is positive about the idea of an EU mission to the south of Libya. “With a big ‘but’,” he said Monday in Brussels. “It depends how it is designed.”
Germany and Italy introduced such a grensmissie recently for the migration to Libya from especially the Niger to the dams. The operation should prevent more migrants drown in the Mediterranean Sea. In Austria and Belgium were all positive response.
EU-buitenlandchef Federica Mogherini said last week that the German-Italian proposal has not yet been officially submitted. However, suggested the Italian that the existing EU missions in Libya, Mali and Niger can be strengthened, to arms, and fighting crime.
