Not so long ago we told you that publisher ZeniMax, which owns such studios as Bethesda and id Software, came out the winner in a lawsuit against the manufacturer of the VR-helmet Oculus, owned by Facebook. The lawyers of ZeniMax decided not to stop after all 500 000 000 dollars won in court, won’t last long. Therefore, the next target for the lawsuit was the South Korean tech giant Samsung.
We will remind you how the events unfolded earlier. The famous game designer John Carmack, who gave the world Doom and Quake, moved from id Software to Oculus. Once Oculus was acquired by Facebook for a couple billion dollars, the management of ZeniMax realized that since virtual reality technology investment so attractive, it would be nice to fuck with this small dividends. John Carmack has been accused in the process of leaving a former place of work brought the company’s intellectual property ZeniMax associated with developments in the field of VR. We all know that the story ended not in favor of Carmack and Oculus. Surprisingly, though, that to this day none of the games this publisher does not support virtual reality helmets. The first game should be Fallout 4 VR, which will be released in the coming months.
The reason for the filing of a new lawsuit still tied to virtual reality. At this time, ZeniMax did not hit the helmet Samsung Gear VR, which as you can guess, had a hand all the same, John Carmack. The lawyers of the publishing house claim that Carmack started developing mobile VR-helmet even while working at id Software, and later, sitting in Oculus, transferred its achievements to the engineers Samsung. Guide ZeniMax, according to the lawsuit, is extremely displeased that despite the victory in court over Oculus, Koreans continue as if nothing had happened to produce all the new Gear VR. Given that during the first quarter of this year Samsung sold about 800,000 sets of such helmets, it is possible to assume that ZeniMax will insist on huge compensation.
