As the press service of the ITMO University, Russian scientists successfully launched the Tatarstan capital of Kazan the first in Russia multi-node quantum network. Has been recently verified in the “quantum telephone”, protected against any interception and provides an extremely high degree of protection.
The first quantum communication line was launched at the ITMO University in 2014. They then “connect” the two wings of the own University, and in June last year, the Russian quantum center announced the launch of the first “urban” lines of communication between the two branches of the Bank. The Kazan variant of quantum network has 4 nodes and has been tested in the past year. At the moment, managed to establish communication between all four points and to develop a new data transfer Protocol, optimized for urban infrastructure.
Two nodes are located in the main switching stations of the company “Tattelecom” on opposite banks of the Kazanka river, and another two in the walls of educational institutions of KAZAN state technical University. Points are at a distance of about 10 kilometers from each other. During the first run between the network nodes was used for the transmission of control commands and sending demo files. In addition, has been tested and audio communication via quantum coding. During the tests, the rate of generation of sifted quantum sequences on separate portions of the network exceeded 100 kilobits per second. As the authors of the project,
“Laboratory of KNRTU-KAI for more than 15 years of experience in quantum memory, but our research needed to find practical application, and to colleagues from ITMO were required quantum memory for communication over long distances. For two years we closely cooperate. In the future we plan to create the signal booster that keeps the quantum state and transmits it over the channel, which allows to increase the communication range, and to certify the network. Further plans of development of the Kazan network going in two directions. First, it improved speed, range and other properties of the quantum channel. Second, docking and development on its basis a variety of information services ranging from data centers to, for example, mobile messaging”.
