The Norwegian ministry of Agriculture has Monday been given the task of 2200 wild reindeer, to shoot. In some animals, is an infectious disease established Chronic Wasting Disease (CWD), that until recently were only available in North America and South Korea occurred.
To a further spread of the disease to avoid the herd that lives in the area Nordfjella between Oslo and Bergen are killed. In Norway the disease was first found in april 2016 with a reindeer in the mountains between Hemsedal and Laerdal. Since then, samples examined of 11,000 elk, reindeer, deer, and other species in Norway. Here were a further four cases positive.
How the animals have the disease suffered is not known. CWD is a contagious disease that the nervous system and brain are affected, similar to mad cow disease, BSE and scrapie in sheep. Healing is not possible, the animals are dying. The man is CWD according to experts, not yet transferred.
