ABBYY will teach smartphones to recognize text objects in real-time

ABBYY spoke about his new development technology called ABBYY Real-Time Recognition. It is designed for use on smartphones without Internet connection and allows you to recognize text from various surrounding objects in real time.

With ABBYY RTR can “extract” the text from the sheet of paper, signs, passports, license plates, monitor screen and so on. The text is not required to photograph and save an image, just hover the camera on the field. Detection is performed directly on the device.

ABBYY RTR is able to recognize text in 63 languages and translate the most common languages. The latter will be especially handy on trips abroad to translate menus, signboards and road signs.

In addition, the company has released a special SDK for iOS and Android, which will allow third party developers to use the technology in their mobile applications.
