We are looking for a spacious and practical family vehicle. That we have done before, but today it is just a little different…
How the times have changed by the world wide web. In the past, when the undersigned was still a small Willempje was, I took always a stack of autotijdschriften on holiday. Certainly when we go to a country were the language is not spoke. Of course, there is still what blades to buy for the pictures. Motortrend (US), L’Auto Journal (F), AutoBild (THE), Wheel (South Africa), Evo Magazine (UK) and AutoOggi (It): they are still in the closet.
Today, this is no longer necessary. Only an internet connection is enough to run the latest autonieuws in your own language to read. Autoblog has a great multitude of followers of Dutch people in almost all countries of the world.
As also Anne-Floor. She lives in Seattle (Washington) and drive currently in an Audi Q7 3.6. She is looking for a suitable replacement for this car. She reads more often the AB opinions, and it strikes her that”the visitors together with a huge database” and “the visitors used car proposals from all corners and holes know to pick up”. In short, a great compliment for the people who are faithful to their post comments!
Ok, a replacement for an Audi Q7. Preferably, Anne-Floor once again, an SUV. Thanks to what gezondheidsbeperkingen and the family situation is so desirable. You get easily in and out of a SUV and you have a nice space for the children and all the trappings that look. The rest of the requirements are listed below the table:
Current /previous cars:Audi Q7 3.6 (a old Jeep Cherokee from 2001)
Sale / lease:Sale
Business / private:Private
Budget:$25,000 to $27.000
Annual mileage:30.000 km (19.000 miles)
Brandstofvoorkeur:No
Reason to purchase another car:to something else
Family:2 children (2 and 4 years old)
Preferred brands /models:preferably a SUV because of some health limitations (high instep) and space for a stroller.
No-go models / marks:None
Life is unfair. That is why we keep a small comparison per car, should the situation in the Netherlands play. At the time of writing is the maximum budget in Euros 24.379.
2013 Volvo XC90 3.2
In the Netherlands: Volvo XC60 2.0 T 2010, (165.000 km)
Yes, the Volco XC90. In your budget is a good late copy is to be found. Most are very well equipped. The XC90 is still a hot deal: spacious, comfortable, and space for 7. And all 7 can also be quite reasonable to sit. The 3.2 engine is running smooth and silky, only dissonant is the vending machine. That is not as smooth, but in normal use it is sufficient. Also the navigation system is less pleasant than in your current car. This is one of the latest XC90’s, so you can assume that all the teething problems out. It is a Volvo. Still premium, you have still a nice car, but it is a bit more sympathetic than a German. Check out this video to see where you should pay attention to.
2011 Mercedes-Benz R350 4-Matic
In the Netherlands: Mercedes-Benz B180 Ambition in 2012 (75.000 km)
This German, for example. The Mercedes R-Class was not a success for Mercedes. For the MPV driver was the car vééls too expensive and the potential customer that the fuss was not interested in a car like this. Apart from that, not from, those are great second hand purchases. For relatively little money and you have a very successful car. The R350 is out of this list, perhaps the nicest for long documents. Engine, automatic transmission, audio, chairs: all top actually. Certainly in the States, where there is no bare-bones versions were available. Where you should watch out for is whether the AWD is concerned, some specimens have only to drive the rear wheels.
2013 Toyota Sienna Limited AWD
In the Netherlands: Toyota Verso 1.8 Business Edition 2013 (45.000 km)
The Full-size MPV in the Netherlands is almost extinct, but in America (yet). There is a tendency. Cheap MINIVAN such as the Dodge Caravan and Chrysler Town & Country are less popular, but the Toyota Sienna. This is the car of Claire Dunphy from Modern Family. The Toyota Sienna is very spacious, well built and very comfortable. And for an MPV see ie there is certainly not wrong. Go for at least the LXE, or prefer the Limited version. Then it’s all there: leather, wood, navigation system, tv screens in the back, separated air conditioning: all. Another top option is the Honda Oddyssey.
2013 Volkswagen Touareg VR6
In the Netherlands: the Volkswagen Tiguan 2.0 TSI 4-Motion DSG Sport & Style 2012 (55,000 km)
If the Audi you like, then this will not disappoint. The second-generation Touareg is a bit of a cuckoo in the nest. The Mk1 was very popular and you still see a lot of drive, also in the US. This version is much less popular. The Touareg is a bit smaller than your Q7, but still large enough for a family with 2 small children. The powertrain is a pleasant. The same engine as in the Audi Q7, but then linked to a modern achttrapsautomaat. So faster, more economical and quieter. Furthermore, to compare with the Volvo: absolutely not gaudy, but you also have not the idea of a budget choice to have made. Just a very nice car.
2013 Buick Enclave
In the Netherlands Opel Antara 2.4 Temptation from 2011 (45.000 km)
A very underrated car. For us Dutch people: the Buick Enclave is a SUV and two buddies up the Antara. Really a large car. It is a softroader, next to the asphalt may ‘ie not so much. Doesn’t matter, because for the rest of the Enclave of all excellent. The interior is very nice, especially for an American. Better than the other options, the Enclave certainly not, but the total package is right just. Big advantage is that you have enough copies find with low miles on the clock. Still, you’re not at the maximum of your budget. However, a downside: it consumes quite a lot, even for a car in this class. Beware of the rattling seat belts.
2011 Acura MDX
In the Netherlands: Honda CR-V 2.0 Executive Automatic AWD from 2012 (95.000 km)
In Europe, the Japanese premium brands are not really to save, but in the U.S. they are very popular. Acura is the luxury brand of Honda. Of all the cars drive this the most as a ‘real’ car, typical Honda. Reliability-in a rare high level. In principle, you can here many more years ahead. The engine is pleasant to handle, although this is still a small bit of rpm should create the momentum to keep. No problem, because the 3.5 V6 does that perfectly. The interior is pretty flexible and provides plenty of space. The Acura MDX is the largest competitor of the Lexus RX350, definitely worth it.
2013 Lincoln MKT
In the Netherlands: Ford Grand C-Max 1.0 Ecoboost Edition Plus 2015 (10,000 km)
How are we going to this car explain. This is a typical crossover SUV. So all the benefits of an SUV combined without the disadvantages. The Lincoln MKT is not particularly beautiful, also the interior is not gorgeous, on the contrary. The MKT is very spacious and practical to share. This convinced the powertrain: the 3.5 V6 Ecoboost is the finest of all engines in this list: by far the most torque and power, without a higher power consumption, very pleasant. You should do some research, because it is not a very popular car. Must be the looks.
Yolo: Dodge Durango R/T
In the Netherlands: Jeep Compass 2.4 i Limited 4WD Automatic transmission from 2012 (80,000 km)
Last year, I, the undersigned, seated in a Dodge Durango and was very impressed that the Americans have made when it comes to interior finish and quality. The Yolo nature of the car lies under the hood, because there is a 5.7 liter Hemi V8 with over 350 hp. Now we’re talking. The engine is real American Muscle. The engine sound is heavenly and the performance is excellent. In terms of driveability would think that the less cars and more ‘truck’ is, but nothing is less true. The Durango is on the bottom plate of the Mercedes ML/GL, You can’t take. Actually not so YOLO…
Really Yolo: Hennessey Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT 600
In the Netherlands: Alfa Romeo 159 Sportwagon 3.2 with autodelta based compressor from 2009 (70.000 km)
Ok, we need to have a real Yolo. Of course. However, we were there, but not out. A BMW X6 M with a lot of mileage is to find for the money. Or a 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo. A 2006 Range Rover Supercharged. In short, nice but not really Yolo. Fortunately, we were @MauritsH in the middle of the day wake up call for inspiration. His argument was simple: Grand Cherokee SRT-8, but then the Hennessey performance. And, heavens above, they are scarce, but can be found for slightly above the budget. The Hennesseey SRT600 is a 620 hp twin turbo sledgehammer. 0-100 is done in 4 seconds while the top far above the 250 is. That goes somewhat at the expense of fuel consumption, but that will cost €0,55 cents per litre to almost nothing. Further: high entry level and a place for the children. Nice.
