I had ’em think I prefer to stay in a safer place and put away than to the sewer canal.
Borgward produced from 1939 to 1963 cars in Bremen, germany. After the American importer went bankrupt, came the brand with a lot of unsold cars sitting. A huge loan later, where the Senate of Bremen guarantor stood for, went the company was heading under.
There were not so long ago plans to make the brand to breathe new life into, but, strangely enough, is here very little more heard of. The announcement that VW’s trademark rights would have purchased turned out to be a poor 1 April joke.
Fortunately, the old bugs, here and there preserved, and there is this Isabella is one of them. The four-cylinder lijnmotortje with 60 hp brought the car via the rear wheels in a asfaltverschroeiende 25 count to 100 km/h and 135 km/h was the cake.
Incidentally, the Isabella at the time best sold well and found the car very reliable. Only in 1954 there are 11.150 copies of built, at a cost of 7.265 German marks. Finally, there are 202,862 pieces of produced. All in all, a funny little car with a remarkable history. View photos of thomcarspotter on autojunk.
