The German minister of transport Alexander Dobrindt could say that it all losloopt with missed earnings from the Netherlands, but research shows that the toll for foreigners the German retail sector a lot of pain is going to do.
Forty percent of the Dutch have brought in recent years a visit to our eastern neighbours, and we bring every year about 3.8 billion euros across the border. In particular, people who are in the border areas of living like to do their shopping on the other side of the border. The reason for that is simple: the groceries there are cheaper and refueling is much less expensive on the other side of the border. Moreover, the petrol stations on the Dutch side of the border fairly systematically exterminated by our government. But fortunately for the Vaderlandsche Ondernemerts there comes the German toll in 2016!
Of course, a (illegal) toll to enter for foreigners brings in money. To be precise, it is expected that the introduction of the buitenlanderbelasting the German exchequer around €250,000,000 euro, but by the introduction of this system will be a lot of Dutch people the border is no more cross for their shopping or car to refuel. Research agency I&O Research held a survey among 5025 Dutch and the result is lying. Only 6% of the Dutch are positive about the planned German tolls.
It would be the German economy, according to this survey, more than €1.000.000.000 euros in lost revenue, an amount that does not seem to outweigh the revenue the toll system. The toll for the Dutch it would be about 100 euro per year and that is for many Dutch people to go crazy. The estimation result of the survey is that 64% less Dutch in Germany will go shopping, 57% less to refuel and 44%, there will be less tourists go to hang out.
Meanwhile, in Germany more and more resistance against the plans, particularly the conservatives. Also chancellor Angela Merkel seems to be skeptical about the import of the system in 2016, she is of the opinion that the tolls only on motorways should apply and not on the entire road network. Previously, we showed that 129 of the municipalities against the plans of Alexander Dobrindt and his supporters.
