They remain a little cocky there at FCA. Or has the Italian equivalent?

While most car manufacturers now fully focus on hybrid or full electric cars, they do at the head office of FCA, the slats close when it comes to this topic. We already knew that CEO Sergio Marchionne not a fan of EV’s, but this statement emphasizes the president once again firmly by saying that electric cars are not the answer to a sustainable future in a recent interview.

Marchionne admits that electric drive is very large, but at the same time, he has his doubts. The orderregen of the Tesla Model 3 does the FCA boss think of a bubble that can collapse. He asks himself aloud whether a similar business model that Tesla currently uses financially beneficial overall in the long term. The 63-year-old Marchionne will appoint however not an alternative for the future of the current mobility. According to him, has still to be discovered.

“I don’t make iPhones. I make cars. Why don’t I make the iPhone of cars? Because if it looks and smells like Tesla, I don’t know how to make that economic model work..”

“..I’m not even sure you can recover all of your costs – let alone generate a profit through electrification. The answer is bound to be somewhere else, and the question is whether we are doing enough to try to explore that somewhere else.”

According to Sergio, the time of the conventional fuel engine is not over and will continue to play important roles in the near future. (via car)
