Audi S5 2016: driving test and video

With the advent of the new A5 there is also a new S5. With more power and more gadgets, of course, we went with them on the road.

But just with the door in the house to fall: the critics are calling the new A5 / S5 too much on the previous looks, but personally, I don’t agree. The in Misano Red executed copy of it, that I starting going back take to shine in the Portuguese sun and the car looks like one lump of energy. Of course, the family line is recognizable and it is good to see that this car is inspired on the design by Walter da Silva, but that I can Audi not in any way blame you. The first-generation A5, which is one of my favorite designs and the new is what concerns me a great evolution of the original design. Something smoother in terms of line, but sure as S5 just a big car.
The S5 has sportier lined bumpers and a diffuser which four chrome tailpipes sticking. Also, there are a few badges, 19-inch wheels and subtle kofferbakspoilertje added to the S5 its road presence. Was very successful, if you ask me. In the interior is familiar Audi. The quality and materials that we are accustomed to Audi, are of course inherited. However, there are special sport seats and a fat sport steering wheel nice in the hand. The S5 is available with a manual zesbak, but this car is with the new automatic transmission equipped.
That automaton is a special mention worth it, because the seven-speed S-Tronic dual clutch is no longer available in the Audi S5. That has to do with a different setup of the engine, so there are now 354 hp instead of the 333 hp under the hood. That is due to a very different setup from the engine. Audi indicates that there are 800 parts of the engine are different, due to the V6 with a “hot V” technique. The turbo is located between the two cilinderbanken, and the intake manifold is one piece with the cylinder heads. Therefore, rinsing the turbo faster and more powerful, resulting in more power. The S5 delivers 500 Nm of torque, and Audi has therefore given preference to the eight speed Tiptronic. Great block, although we still lack is always that delicious V8.
A dual-clutch automatic transmission is in principle faster than a conventional automatic transmission, but you will notice there is in practice nothing of when this tank is. The S5 is 0.2 seconds faster than the 100 (4.7 seconds), and you have actually no time that you can not with a doppelkopplungsgetrieb’re on the go. Perhaps that is in part caused by the engineered “DSG fart” that we hear at the switch.
The gearbox throws the power much more than ever to the rear wheels. Did the previous S5 even with a 50/50 split, today, send the Quattro Sport Differential as much as possible of engine power to the rear axle for sportier driving experience. It makes the S5 a bit more dynamic, but it’s still not a achterwielaandrijver.
Also dynamic is the chassis, but that’s not necessarily a fantastic fact. The S5 is quite firmly sprung and on the not so nice Portuguese asphalt is downright unpleasant in the Dynamic mode of the Drive Select system. For me the most interesting solution was in the “Individual” option, which I made all the variables to “Dynamic” have set up, but the damping to “Comfort” ‘ve put. That improves the situation considerably, but still always found the S5 quite stiff. I should be noted that the asphalt in Portugal really was bad, so it may be that you can use in the Netherlands had little trouble having.
The fact is that the undercarriage is nice and communicative, and the S5 is a nice car to hard. Looking only slightly wider roads than the mountain roads that Audi had for us sorted out, because there was the power of the S5 is really overkill. On the rare stretches of road that are clearer and larger, were revealed the S5, however, as a kind of time machine, which you yourself from corner to corner seems to be able to teleport. Submit feels sharper and more precise than with the previous S5, but in terms of send continues to be a 3-series coupe is still the better. And then ask yourselves now whether you this car or purchase a Mercedes C43 AMG or a BMW 435i with M performance goodies. The answer is not clear-cut. It is a lovely car to over undulating roads to the rams, and also very easy to live with. The S5 comes with a get along with everybody, that everything is simply good and in addition, the benchmark in its class in terms of interior. If the chassis is not too hard to find, then it is a car where you get a lot of fun. Movie!
Prices are not yet known, but expect to pay around the same price tag as the previous S5.
