A glimpse into the hallowed halls of BMW

BMW has a lot more classics than just the cars in the BMW Museum sees.
In the BMW Museum, we are all ever been, and if you have never been you should go there urgently, a binding travel advice that also applies to the museums of Mercedes and Porsche). At the 100-year-old BMW do you see just a fraction of the classics that the company holds back in the museum. Almost every model is at least one copy has been preserved. This ensures that the klassiekercollectie of BMW, in the meantime, more than a thousand cars. About a tenth of that collection is regularly riding to admire, at events such as the Mille Miglia, the Creme21 Youngtimer Rallye, or the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Where those cars are? On different locations in Munich and they showed me the latest.
Historical
Recently, BMW has namely an old location and re-use. BMW Group Classic was moved in march to the Moosacher Strasse in Munich, to the place where in 1918 the first BMW factory was opened. In 2014 bought BMW a part of those buildings back from the company that is now the place to find, Knorr-Bremse. The gateway was returned to its former glory and a large hall is in use as a garage for classic BMW’s. The workshop of BMW Group Classic is, however, in a state of the art building, because of course it was at this campus a long time not all of it in the state in which a BMW in 1920 leaving behind. Because let’s be honest: this complex is historic because it is the first factory of BMW was, but not because the brand is so long established. In contrast to Knorr-Bremse by the way, because that company bought the premises in 1920 and now owns still the largest part.
Small chance
Before you think we’re being hacked by a architectuursite, we go through that inside the buildings to see. The chance of that ever arrives, is small. At the time that we arrive, runs like a BMW M1 (the first) through the gate. Two weeks earlier, for the first time at the plate, with less than 2,000 kilometres on the odometer. In the inner courtyard is now a 2002 GT4 in a lorry. The car was designed by Frua and in case you’re wondering how exclusive such a GT4 is: there were two built.
328’s seem to be just
And we are not even within. There is much more. Antonia Cecchetti, one of BMW’s international pr managers, tail almost love an E30 M3, and reports that they are still the best autofront ever find. A woman of cars and you on a fantastic classic point – better it can almost not be. But yet we have no eye for Antonia and the M3, because there is still so many other things in this hall – much more exclusive than an M3 also.
A row of pre-war 328’s, just back from the Mille Miglia, seems to be almost simply because three feet away the even more special 328 Mille Miglia Touring Coupé. You thought it was special to a BMW 507 to see? Here, there are two next to each other, including the only yellow that it left the factory. Incidentally, there are also two Bond cars here is very casual next to each other: the Z8 from The World Is Not Enough and the 750iL from Tomorrow Never Dies.
Even more special
Even more special is if you see that here also one-offs and prototypes. What do you think a BMW 750iL in 1992, by Karl Lagerfeld, among the hands was taken? Or the BMW Z1 Coupé from 1988? And then there is the BMW E1, an electric car that the brand has developed far before you ever of the i3 or the Tesla Model S had heard. At least so special is a compact car, the Z13. In 1993, two years after the E1, showed the Germans of this city car. It weighs just 830 pounds, and the drive comes from a 1.2-litre large motorfietsblok. The most striking feature is however the sitting position: in this driepersoonsauto is the driver in the middle, like in the McLaren F1.
And about that F1 voice: not so long ago, we talked to a pr manager at McLaren who said that there are weekly requests come from media with a F1 want to drive. “But we don’t have that. To be particular, too expensive. Have you seen how much of Rowan Atkinson’s sold?’ Well, as a McLaren F1, so you can find, however, in the collection of BMW. Out of politeness, we will look not too long into the McLaren and we go back quickly to the BMW’s. The Just 4/2, for example, a roadster of which only 660 kilos in weight. Or the M1 ProCar where Nelson Piquet mind raced. There are so many other things that you while you’re walking around only think you can think like: “I want to live here.’ With Antonia and M3, if possible.
