The competition in the market for compact SUVS is large. Is the Seat Ateca good enough to get customers from other brands way to lure?

Finally now also Seat with a compact SUV in the C segment. It went the past few years, not great with the men from Spain and so it was high time that Seat was going to mix in this popular segment. They’ve already a while ago, because already in 2011 we saw the IBX concept, the harbinger of things to Seat us now, and fun.

Fact is, however, that the competition is strong and the business is already on order. Cars like the Kia Sportage, Hyundai Tucson, Nissan Qashqai, and not to forget, the twin brother of the Volkswagen Tiguan have already firmly feet on the ground. Question is what Seat has to offer that the other players do not. Seat has the answer ready for us: sportsmanship. This should be the sportsman under the SUV, with its row properties and appearance.

There is only one chance to make a first impression, so goes an ancient saying. Personally, I never so of to cars with similar products of other brands to compare. But I’m still a time. Seat raises are very proud that the design-motto “Made in Barcelona” is, but if there is “Made in Ingolstadt” had been, but I had also believed. The Audi line is strong in this one. The Ateca looks to me fine, but very recognizable Seat, I do not. Where is that “Auto Emocion” remained what Seat ever advocated?

For the interior it is pretty much the same. Everything is perfect, ergonomically, everything is ok. In terms of design, seems to be a lot taken from the Seat Leon, with the only difference being a higher centre console. It is all understandable, but somewhere is also fairly easy and mainstream. Also I can’t shake the feeling that I was in a Qashqai just a little more room in it. That is somewhat offset by a boot of 510 litres (458 for versions with four-wheel drive).

In terms of connectivity, it’s almost not possible for a mobile device to buy that can’t be found. Seat Full Link has integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. But there is also a Seat ConnectApp, if you with those systems, not yet out of the feet. Implementation figures start at Reference. People who want something more the Style of ordering and the most comfortable and luxury package is now called Xcellence in Seat. Also new for Seat is the wireless charging for phones via a box in the center console, but then of course you have to have a phone that that technique supports.

And that is not the only gadget on the Ateca. So there are the optional 360-degree cameras, where you also can choose to one camera at a time. Works nicely, on a trail that Seat has turned off, we drive on the basis of the screen while windows dichtgestickerd. If I were on the Playstation, I’m busy in a very realistic game of GTA, and there will be no pawns to.

Motor seen, there is a choice of diesels and benzineblokken. There are two benzineblokjes. I use aware a verkleinwoordje, because the entry-level model is the 1.0 TSI three-cylinder with 115 horsepower. The heaviest benzinevariant is the EcoTSI four-cylinder with 150 hp. On the second choice (a 150 hp 2.0 TDI) is 4DRIVE optional. The highlight of the range is, however, the 190 hp 2.0 TDI, which is standard on four-wheel drive and DSG.

Also in the Ateca we find the “Driving Experience”switch in the center console, which we can choose out of four “SEAT Drive Profiles”, namely “Normal”, “Sport”, “Eco” and “Individual”. Versions with 4DRIVE also have “Snow” and “Offroad”settings. Also, there are many security systems available, or available. A selection: file-assistant, lane assistant, adaptive cruise control and Emergency Assist. That last brings your car to a stop if the system is the idea that you can do more (for example, by a cardiac arrest or something like that).

We have a 2.0 TDI with 190 hp managed to get hold of, because more horsepower is always better. The 2.0 TDI is equipped as standard with 4DRIVE and the DSG gearbox. The first meters will notice immediately that this is no more SUV’s. Seat pretends to be “the best riding SUV” to have developed and I’ve been meaning to be on the twisty roads around Barcelona to see if that is really so. Of course we drive in the “Sport”mode, but even in this mode, the DSG is sometimes a little slow responding to the throttle pedal. Itself pinball is slightly better, but even then things don’t always go as fast as we know that is possible. This tank is in many Volkswagen Group products, and we know that it is all float. But that is the only smetje on the driving characteristics of it further, good steering Ateca.

Of course, if you are sliding and with too much speed in a curve has to offer then you get understeer. But beyond that, the Ateca nice and neutral and predictable in its cornering. Not for a moment have I thought with a SUV on the road. Apart from the slightly higher seating position will feel the Ateca as a great driving hatchback. Nothing wrong with that!

And that makes the Ateca apart from the fairly neutral jacket, a fine car. Meanwhile, there are many variations of C-segment MQB-SUV to purchase within the Volkswagen group, but the Ateca is for the people who also do a bit of hoepelen to keep probably the best choice. Also compared to cars like the Qashqai and the Tucson will be the Ateca is very well, we estimated. Now it is only the question of whether the market is not yet saturated, but that will be the time to learn. Seat hopes, in any case, for thinking that 25% of their cars sold a Ateca will be the next time.
