GM’s LS-achtpitters are a popular object for builders and tuners of different reputation. What car enthusiast doesn’t ever make a 944 or the MX-5 come across on the internet with a LS swap? These brothers were however a lot further with their project.
Chevrolet’s LS1 is a late ’90 and early ’00 used in many GM models. Among other things, under the hoods of the Chevrolet Corvette C5, Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the Holden Commodore Ute and the Pontiac GTO from 2003 is the block to find. We Europeans remind us, perhaps even the Opel Omega with LS1-V8 under the hood. After a previous attempt in 1999 seemed to be the concept from 2001 is ready for production, but unfortunately, it was eventually never.
In 2005, the fourth generation of GM’s V8 on the market and followed the LS2 in most GM products the LS1. If you want you can still, however, fairly easy a ‘new’ LS1 get. On the interwebz, they are in droves will be offered as “crate engines”. If you order one get you a box to your house with an engine in it, which you then put in your Miata MX-5 can drop.
The brothers Corish from Australia have, however, gone a step further. They took two LS1’s, fetched from both blocks of two cylinders and knutselden the remains then to each other. The result: a monstrous 8.6 litre V12 with an inclined angle of 90 degrees. Nice, but that thing works, of course not, you probably will think. That is, however. The engine is in ‘dyno’ mode and delivered a healthy 717 hp and 850 Nm. The good news is that they also made a movie of.
The idea is now to use this engine transplanted into a Camaro from 1968, next year off to travel to SEMA to steal the show. What concerns us, they make if this succeeds best in a good chance to succeed. In which car would you this monster install?
Thank you Sweder for the tip!
