No, you look here, not to a design study for Citroën CX, nor to a creation of Robert Opron, but to a concept car from Pininfarina, who seven years before the CX was presented.
In the years ’60 was the Austin/Morris 1800 the middle class of the British Motor Corporation. A great car, but with a dull appearance that is also very what seemed to be the much smaller 1100 and 1300. Pininfarina saw the potential of the technique and designed a for that time very modern and streamlined carriage.
In retrospect, we see unmistakably a Citroen CX in the design, but the 1800 Berlina Aerodinamica dates from 1967, while the CX made its debut in 1974, and the slightly smaller GS in 1970. The designer of the two Citroen’s, the renowned Robert Opron has never, under chairs or sofas stung where his inspiration came from. According to the picture below, the car has, however, been at the brink of even more well-known designs.
AND BMC? They were stupid enough not like with the beautiful design and kept the 1800 and later 2200 build in the same less recent form (Matchbox took him in production, they have the ‘something’ smaller). However, they came in 1976, the Rover SD1, that in terms of raw proportions is a bit like the Berlina Aerodinamica. By Robbers own David Bache designed Rover SD1 seemed, however, much more on the Ferrari 365 GTB/4 ‘Daytona’, a creation of yes, Pininfarina…
