Hot news from Affalterbach. Just the performancedivisie of Mercedes the specifications of the new achtcilinder presented.
Also Mercedes does not escape downsizing. Where until recently it still came off with a stupid big V8’s with 6.3 liter capacity, by petrolheads worldwide acclaim, it will in the near future switch to a more modest engine capacity of four liters, supported by two turbochargers.
Is that bad, that turbo-inflation? However, they continue to at least hold on to the V8, a tradition that in 1967 began with the 300 SEL 6.8 AMG. Another option is to have car manufacturers with CO2 pressure from the EU simply does not. And to start with the door in the house to fall: the direct injected block (engine code: M178) in the AMG GT up to 510 hp (375 kW). The 650 newton meters is available between the 750 and 4750 rpm.

As in this video, it was explained, the block two turbos. These are not on the outside mounted, but on the inside of the V-angle. Also call them a ‘hot inside V’. Mercedes says this because it is more compact and contributes to a faster response. Further noteworthy is the lubrication system. The Germans also opted for a dry-sump performance, with the oil in a sump under the kruksas, but in a separate tank, from where it is attached to – and removed. A well-known trick to engines lower position and the block is insensitive to transverse and langskrachten that the lubrication can compromise.
The exhaust system for the 4.0 V8 Biturbo is running with a pair of valves to the engine noise to be able to regulate. A timid hum to your neighbors not to wake up, to a more ‘motorsport-inspired’ sound, says Mercedes.
The first Mercedes with the block, the AMG GT, and we may safely assume that the 209 kg weight block in every V8 powered AMG above the A-Class platform. How the new engine sounds you can hear.
