The eternal number 2 in the eighties, there is there will be a under the hammer.
The 959 was Porsche’s masterpiece for the Group B rallyklasse be, but not long after unveiling the curtains for this ranorde, and the car to the delight of many, developed into a masterful street version. That came in 1987 on the market, with two turbo-fed 2.8 litre six-cylinder boxer engine in the middle, good for 440 hp and 500 Nm of torque. (How that runs, you can see HERE.)
Further gleamed the 959, of course, from innovation. Things that we now take for granted – tyre pressure sensors, magnesium wheels, hydraulic adjustable suspension, kevlar + aluminium in the bodywork – had been in this great feat of the Germans. As well as all-wheel drive.
It is still unclear how many have been built. Some say 292, the other counting the prototypes and bring on 329. What is certain however, is that there are only three have been delivered in this colour scheme: black paint and matching rims. One of the three is in August traded by auction house Gooding & Company, the autofeestje to Pebble Beach. The expected yield is between 1.6 and 1.8 million euros. F40 money.
