DAF 55 Siluro: Hollandse glorie
Truttenschudders with jarretelaandrijving? Smile but. DAF is and remains Dutch largest automobieltrots. These beads prove that.

The clever pookje. May sound hopelessly silly, but the Variomatic, such as the thing in jargon is called, was revolutionary. The first continuously variable automatic transmission, by use of belts poulies and exerting centrifugal forces ensured that at any speed the optimum speed with the best pair was chosen.

Admittedly, I am not entirely objective as the DAF arrives. Witness my tundra green 66 from ’74. Sounds like a coffee grinder (reutel in the drive shaft, DAF-riders recognize this), but nevertheless fantastic. With 95 km/h on the highway, you’re guaranteed a head-turner.

Eventually, it was DAF’s genius invention also has a bit of a downfall. Because that infinitely variable speed by means of belts worked perfectly, but made the DAF a little bit to a (senior) vrouwenauto. And that achteruitrijraces also helped. They watched because of the crashes, not because the DAF’s so nice and hard backward.

DAF 750 Pickup – by glenn141
Daf 750 Pickup
This DAF came at the same time with the Daffodil on the market and was equipped with a 4-stroke tweecilincer boxer engine. The engine was larger than that of the Daffodil, but the 750 was less luxurious and therefore was not a sales success. This pickup is an original special variant.

DAF Buggy – by leroybreugel
Daf Geeris Buggy
In the years ’70 began the New specialist Harrie Geeris with the build of a buggy on the basis of a DAF 66. The idea was to make a small series out of it, but the best man is never farther than a few copies. This is the only one that is left of it.

DAF Pony – by mikeslsamg
Daf Pony
Of this small truck based on a DAF 44 were between ’68 and ’69 only 700 units were built. Why so few? There were eventually not enough people interested in both the version with trailer, if the tractor-trailer variety.

DAF Siluro – by ricardo
Daf Siluro
Subcutaneous, this is a DAF 55 Coupé, but body designer Giovanni Michelotti, a great name within the DAF-world – built this two-seat car with a wedge shape. After Michelotti’s death was the Siluro – Italian for torpedo – forgotten in his garden, now is the special car restored and it is ‘ie in the DAF Museum in Eindhoven.

DAF City – by autoblogger
Daf City
In command of DAF made the Turin bodybuilder OSI of a Daffodil for a true city car. With left only one door for the driver, but the right two. The voorpoortier went in the regular direction of the open, the rear door on his explanations. The best part: no b-pillar on the right.

DAF YA 66 – by sjoerd95
Daf YA 66
What is this thing taunted. Suspender Jeep was his nickname. It was for this DAF 66 in legertenue not easy to feel like YA 66 between the large legerboys to go. There were slightly more than 1200 built. Now he no longer laughed at, but it is a very popular type of among DAF-collectors.

DAF 66 Super Luxe Coupé – by sjoerd95

Less special than the six previous models, but is not less beautiful. The 66 is the last model that DAF under his own name has built (in Born of course), for Volvo quantity took over. This mini-Mustang Fastback from ’75 has a capacity of thick, 48 hp, and is delightfully tight in his coat.
