Yesterday unveiled Ford’s sixth generation Mustang, and this will also be the first Mustang that sold worldwide. To our knowledge of this muscle a little by nailing us, we look back at the previous five generations.
First generation (1964-1973)
This is probably the type of where the average american think of when you hear the word Mustang. Perhaps the current fifth generation – also often will be called, but the classic Mustang is really the most well known. This is partly due to movies like Gone in 60 Seconds and Bullit.
Second generation (1973-1978)
The 2nd generation Ford Mustang was only very shortly on the market. This model was in production from 1973 to 1978, then came the third generation already. On Autojunk is also a Ford Mustang Grande.
Third generation (1978-1993)
As the successor of the second generation Mustang presented by Ford this rather angular Mustang which 15 years remained in production. Just as the second generation of Mustang was also this type available with a four-cylinder under the hood. Something we again see with the sixth generation. Did you know that McLaren is a special version made of this Mustang?
Fourth generation (1993-2004)
Compared with the angular third generation was this round Mustang a real breath of fresh air. From this generation were viercilinders again disappeared under the hood and there were a mere V6 and V8 engines available. Especially with a Mach 1 package was this car desirable.
Fifth generation (2004-2014)
Together with the first-generation Mustang, this is probably the type of Mustang is that most of you will know. Through the grey imports are quite a few of these Mustangs came to the Netherlands, but officially this type is never available. The thickest versions were built with the help of Shelby.
