We drove the Porsche 911 S “olieklepje”, one of the most sought after Porsches among collectors.

“We want to create cars that directly from the productieband can participate in races.”

That was the text that you could read in the brochure of the Porsche 911 from 1972. The sporty ambitions of the brand with the engine behind the rear axle would be in the 50 year of the 911 is largely kept. Still, it was the 911 in those years is not, by definition, supersportief, an entry-level 911 T if you bought in those years, with 130 hp, not a monstrous amount of power. The 911 E did it with 165 hp, a lot better but was more luxury oriented. No, for a fast 911 you had at the time, the 911’s have. It had about 190 hp and thanks to the compact external dimensions and low weight, were fun performance as possible. A sprint to one hundred, it took 7 seconds in the 911’s, while a top speed of 230 km is feasible.

The variant with a removable roof panel came in 1967 on the market, and was Targa called, a nod to the success that Porsche has recorded in the infamous Targa Florio in Sicily. The 2.4 911 S is for many the best early Porsche 911, as we are now almost priceless 2.7 Carrera RS apart. The model with olieklepje is extra rare.

The story behind the cover, an article on is worth, but I will briefly explain. The Porsche 911 had a rather overdriven handling, especially on the limit. Therefore, it was not an easy manageable car for inexperienced drivers. The cause was simple: almost all of the weight hung behind the rear axle. Go too hard in a bend and you get a hefty dose of oversteer in the right track is really a challenge, unless you’re Walter Röhrl is called. In an attempt to balance the car to improve decided Porsche for model year 1972 the oil tank to move. The tank was sitting behind the right rear wheel, but due to the tank before the right rear wheel position, the weight of the tank (including 8.5 litres of oil) between the wheels placed.

The olieklepje came only to visit the place where at quite a lot of people the cap was. The 911 has been around since year and day the fuel cap on the left of the nose sit. The story goes that there are quite a few complaints when Porsche came in about people who have gasoline in their oil tank had tanked. Porsche decided in each case after a year to get the oil tank back on the spot with the oil filling lavel under the hood. This was the 911 with olieklep would be a very rare occurrence. In 1974 this model was 911 replaced by the model with the so-called “harmonicabumpers” which is seen by many as less pleasant to be labeled. But mark my words: now the prices of the pre-1974 911 the pan begin to rise in the next 911, where the same thing is going to happen the 911 with harmonicabumpers. Now, as a 911 on the nab is probably not a bad investment.

But back to the Porsche 911 S 2.4 Targa that I have now for my nose. For me this is almost the perfect car, an early 911 with the best engine. Of course the 2.7 Carrera RS even begerenswaardiger but for me certainly not feasible. Even the most rotten ones are for me in the next ten years not to afford, let alone a decent mobile instance. No, a 911 S I would really like to be on the sidewalk and definitely in the state as this car.

Gina Classics bought this car and then showed him to a specialist behind with the message “make him better than new”. And so it came to pass, the car has since the restoration a little more than 1300 kilometres on the clock and looks as if he, as the showroom is rolled. Everything looks and feels literally like new: the engine compartment, paint, interior, everything. The car was originally built in late 1971 but is of model year 1972. The coat colour is called Blutorange Tangerine and the interior is done in black leather. The car is between 2011 and 2014 completely re-built by Dutch specialists. The steering wheel was at the request of the owner, be replaced by a copy from a 2.7 Carrera RS because it is slightly smaller. A fine adjustment because it can also I just sit. The standard wheel is larger and that is the seating position for the taller people not for good, especially because the shift lever is in the way.

This Targa not only looks as new but drives, steers and turns as new. The restaurateurs have the frame delivered, that is clear. The 911 from this period remains one of my favorite cars. The raspy sound of the six cylinder boxer is also so addictive. Soothing at the time that you are low in the revs and if but opzwepender once you get the rev counter towards the red area hunts. Personally I like the coupe better, but a Targa has the advantage that you have some more of that block of course. Addictive fun as my old 911.

In terms of handling there’s very little to tell you what we still don’t know about an old 911: on the limit is a bright cart, you have to stay there for ten percent of the way then you can enjoy yourself. Thanks to the weight on the rear axle, you lose rarely grip when accelerating, so the trick is to the nose as quickly as possible is left to send, do you do that well then you can go very quickly on the gas. With a car like this is still really an art to be hard, something I with this rare beautiful copy but just not going to do this. Sitting on 80% play is also very fun in a car like this.

To know more about this 911? On the site of Gina Classics you will find (in addition to the price of €159.000 euros) also the complete story behind this 911 and the restoration of it. Also the folder from which time there is to find, fun to examine. If you make a purchase and find someone to get this car moving to keep the years to come, please send me an e-mail. This is probably my dream car, although it remains, of course, there is always that twisted 2.7 Carrera RS…
