New Toyota Auris gets the 1.2 turbo: 20% of list price

Toyota has quite a long wait with turbo-engines, the Japanese manufacturer put focus on this hybrid type spark plug. They are in order and scoop up a newly developed 1.2 T in the facelifted Auris.

Where many manufacturers driecilindermotoren apply in cars from the C segment and sometimes, even the D-segment, the 1.2 T of Toyota is still just a four cylinder. Nevertheless, it is not just a small four cylinder with a turbo, Toyota applies special technique to make the block as efficient and economical as possible.

For example, the block under low load switch from the conventional Otto cycle to the Atkinson cycle. Practically it comes down to is that the intake valves stay open a bit longer, so some of the air from the combustion chamber can escape when the piston is on its upward movement begins. The result is a lower power, but higher efficiency and therefore lower fuel consumption.

Furthermore, the 1.2 T is a water cooled turbo and heat exchanger and is Toyota’s variable klepbediening (VVT-i). The 1.2 T is good for 116 horsepower and 185 Nm. This sprint the facelifted Auris in only 10.1 seconds for the hundred, and he gets a top of 200 km/h. The average consumption is fixed at 4.7 liters per 100 km. That equates to an emission of 109 grams of CO2 per km, accounting for 20% of list price.
