More and more hybrids and electric cars whiz by on our roads, but that is not to say that the demand for diesel and gasoline decreases. On the contrary, according to the Dutch head of Shell.

When will all those billions that governments around the world pumping in more sustainable forms of transport now, imagine paying? In five years, ten years maybe? None of that, says Shell ceo Ben van Beurden across the NOS. ‘Only in the mid 30’s the demand for fossil fuels reach its peak.’ Van Beurden will see in the coming decades than just cars on petrol and diesel.

“We are pumping just as much oil as needed to meet the demand,” says the ceo, who also adds that he expects that Shell in the future for its oil and gas resources will stand. Life without fossil fuels is, according to Van Beurden possible, but only if we are willing to give our wealth to give.

How much oil is there really?

How reliable are the words of Shell’s Van Beurden? On the one hand, they will have their own market well know, on the other hand, they would be crazy to make all of their own glass to throw, and to proclaim that there is no future in fossil fuels. Although it is only because Shell last year, the worst figures in years showed record, helped by the extremely low price of oil.

Unfortunately, scientists do not agree on the amount of oil that our planet we still can offer. In 2006 calculated the Cambridge Energy Research Associates is that there is still plenty of oil under the aardkost to 3.74 trillion barrels (a-120 litres) to fill. Just to be clear, we drain on this every day about 75 million barrels of the black gold vol. It would mean that there is still for thousands of years oil. Incidentally it is not all the oil for pumping, but our generation’s obviously chiseled. Right? Perhaps, indeed, there are also scientists who expect that within 40 years all our fossil fuels. Invest in a classic car seems suddenly no longer so interesting… The differing figures indicate that actually no one is really sure seems to know. So let’s be a little careful with our stocks.
